Video: Islamic Terrorists Behead Russian Diplomats

“God’s verdict has been carried out on the Russian diplomats … in revenge for the torture, killing and expulsion of our brothers and sisters by the infidel Russian government”

I wasn’t going to post, or even link to, these types of videos anymore. I’m sick of them and sick of the people who find them entertaining. But I’m getting tons of hate mail from folks who manage to overlook the horrors committed in the name of Islam yet somehow find me offensive. This video is for you. There’s a photo in the gallery as well. I’m sure your excuses will mirror those offered by Al-Qaida.

ABC News describes the video in the oddly titled story “Iraq Insurgents Claim to Kill 4 Russians”:

In the footage, two men clad in black and wearing black ski masks shout “God is great!” before beheading the first man. Then one militant appears standing over the decapitated body of a second victim lying in a pool of blood, with the head placed on top of the body.

The footage of the beheading victims shows a closed room with white walls. The shooting appears outdoors in what looked like an alley between buildings.

The footage was stamped with the logo of al-Qaida.

“God’s verdict has been carried out on the Russian diplomats … in revenge for the torture, killing and expulsion of our brothers and sisters by the infidel Russian government,” the statement said.

The video begins with a verse from the Quran appearing in white letters on a black screen, and a voice reading “Those who aggress on you, you aggress on them.”

One at a time, the four men appear on camera, staring ahead and speaking in Russian. Then the camera cuts to the killings.

I think you can drop “claim to” from your story title ABC.

It is frightening to think there are human beings capable of such horrific brutality. Frankly, I don’t like watching the videos but think it is important to show the world what we are fighting.

Here are they are, the loving, kind, misunderstood bunch who want to sit down and chat with Charlie Sheen, Mike Moore, Jimmy Carter, and the bunch over a nice cup of tea. Perhaps the New York Times would consider sponsoring the event and Yale could throw in an education incentive. Surely, this would lighten up their rhetoric and who knows, they might even consider becoming Jehovah Witnesses and preach the good news door to door (not that there is anything wrong with being a Jehovah’s Witness).

Don’t you people get it? These people are misunderstood. Underneath the masks, radical ideology, and beheadings they are really good people.

I say, “Show the world what they are missing.”

I’ve already seen some posts on liberal sites that have found a way to blame the United States and Bush for this.

I think they are just so afraid they can’t face who the real enemy is.

You know, if you people had half as much hatred towards the terrorists as you do towards Liberals, we’d actually have what it takes to possibly win this war. United we stand, divided we fall but hey, what do you care…American Idol is coming on. “We are standing together at the barricades against these barbarians.” No you’re not! Your sitting on your asses in the comfort of your homes routing for other people to die. Thats just priceless in the cheese factor. You wanna win the war on terror, cut off our dependancy on their black oil dicks. If they ain’t got our money then they can’t afford to strike at us. WMD’s, liberate Iraq, freedom and democracy, protect America from terrorists, fight them there so we don’t have to fight them here…what a load of crap! They weren’t there to begin with. We went there to make sure China didn’t get a hold of the World’s 2nd largest oil reserve when the sanctions got lifted and to guarantee that we would have it because Saudi Arabia is runing dry. Everytime the terrorists release a video like this, you practically masterbate to it and of course, keep up with that anti-Liberal childishness. The war on terror will never be won until we stop financing it.

Hopefully the terrorist scum will be rooted out and exterminated root and branch. U.S. forces should never have invaded Iraq in the first place to create this situation, but they are there now, so make the best of it and give a few hundred or so al-Qaida vermin the fast track to ‘martyrdom’ in Hell while they’re “in the neighborhood.”

    Trevor,

I am not opposed to your argument on oil but don’t see how it relates to the video or topic which is being discussed. I belive the subject matter focused on the ideology of fundamentalist. Not oil, not WMD’s. These issues were not addressed in any of the comments. Do terrorist say, I am cutting off the infidel’s head because of oil? I believe the point being made is that regardless of what we do or don’t do, nothing will change. By definition, the terrorists believe that we (the West) are infidels.

The left tends to believe that they can change the minds of these people and they happily admit it. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it is simply ineffective and naive. Karen and other’s were pointing out the fact that the left (who prides itself on diplomacy) approach things differently and in a tongue and cheek fashion, try and point out that romanticizing our enemies is both dangerous and irresponsible.

I would suggest that you re-read the e-mails and come up with logical based rationale before you adopt arguments that have no correlation to the topic. As for your last comment, I am not sure how any polite, educated person would reply to such a comment. It all comes back to the basics, many on the left, have very little to offer as far as substance. Devoid of logic, you unsuccessfully try assert irrational logic and then close your argument with what can only be described as a bizarre and inappropriate.

Try and deal with issues from a logical standpoint, as a student of logic, I promise you will be far more successful. Diversion to other topics, without clearly presenting a logical flow, is a miserable failure. Also, strange attempts to insult readers will only erode your credibility.

I hope you take note that I am attacking your lack of logic and not you as a person.

By the way, do you drive a car?

In all fairness, I have read back over the posts and find that Trevor has at least as much of a point as the people who prompted his anger - the ones who turn every atrocity into yet another anti-liberal diatribe. History will decide whether the Bush Administration blundered into Iraq on the basis of bad intelligence or deliberately misled the American people about WMD’s in order to depose a vicious dictator actively hostile to American interests - albeit one who apparently hated Shiite theocratic revolutionaries at least as much as he hated us. Did it also occur to the President and his advisors that the invasion could have the additional benefit of securing an oil supply for the future against the possibility that someday the house of Saud may be overthrown by their own radical Islamist elements? I would certainly hope so, as it occurs to anyone with an IQ higher than that of a flatworm.

At any rate, despite my profound lack of agreement with much of the neo-conservative political agenda in general (especially its sympathies with America’s home-grown religious radicals) and the disturbing combination of arrogance and secrecy of the Bush Administration in particular, it is the considered belief of this American that militant Islamists are NOT, in fact, basically good people and that we are destined to fight them for a long, long time to come. And if we are ever going to defeat the kind of people who saw the heads off of innocents, it won’t be by becoming a nation of jingoistic neo-fascists who brook no criticism or dissent. We have got to be better than that.

  10. John Roberts Says:

    I say no more:

All those who support the American war in Iraq should make a deal with anyone opposed to the war. Offer to answer any 20 questions the opponents wish to ask if they will answer just one:

Do you believe we are fighting evil people in Iraq?

That is how supporters of the war regard the Baathists and the Islamic suicide terrorists, the people we are fighting in Iraq.

Because if you cannot answer it, or avoid answering it, or answer “no,” we know enough about your moral compass to know that further dialogue is unnecessary. In fact, dialogue is impossible. Our understanding of good and evil is so different from yours, there is simply nothing to discuss. Someone who was asked a hundred years ago “Do you believe that whites who lynch blacks are evil?” and refused to answer in the affirmative was not someone one could dialogue with.

Here are the responses you are likely to receive:

    1. The Bush administration is just as evil: for illegally invading a country that did not threaten us; for “lying” to get us into Iraq; and because it is a war for corporate profits.

    2. Some of those we are fighting may be evil, but not all; some are simply fighting against foreign occupation of their country.

    3. We cannot call anyone evil; only God can make such judgments.

I will respond to these “responses,” but what is most important is to acknowledge that none of them actually responds to the question. Anyone posing this question to opponents of the war must not let them off the hook. They must answer the question: Do you believe we are fighting evil people in Iraq?

Regarding the issue of judging anyone evil, the best response is a question: Can we judge anyone to be good (not perfect, just good)? Of course we can. But if we can’t call anyone evil, we can’t call anyone good, and we certainly know that there are good people. If there are good people, there have to be not good, evil people.

Anyone who remains unable to morally judge people who slit the throats of innocent people, who place bombs in the middle of markets, and who murder anyone attempting to help women achieve basic human rights is a moral imbecile.

As for the Bush administration being equally evil, this, too, reveals the responder’s values. It is one thing to believe the war was a mistake; it is quite another to regard it as a function of the administration’s desire to enrich Halliburton or expand the “American empire,” or because Jewish neo-conservatives pushed docile Gentiles — Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld — into waging it “for Israel.” Such views are held by people who are so angry and so brainwashed about conservatives that they have lost the elementary ability to identify real evil, which is what Islamic and Baathist terrorists and “insurgents” are.

Finally, the people fighting us in Iraq hate freedom, hate women’s rights, hate non-Muslims, and do all they can to murder innocent Iraqis and others in order to undermine the march toward freedom in Iraq. They are not fighting foreign invaders; they are fighting foreign liberators and domestic democrats.

It is worth again noting that none of those responses directly answers the question: Do you believe we are fighting evil people in Iraq?

It is one thing to oppose the war in Iraq; it is quite another to deny the evil of those we fight there. That is what the Left in America routinely does. And that is why the culture war in America is as important as the military war in Iraq.

Funny you mention women’s rights. Under Saddam’s rule, women were allowed and even encouraged to attend college, gain degrees and join the workforce. He was an evil dictator but an imperialistic dictator who believed in a open market capitalist economy. Now under the new, Islamic rule, women are no longer allowed to attend college, enter the workforce and are being forced to stay home and wear “bee-keeper” suits. Under Saddam’s rule, Christian and Jewish communities existed in Iraq and lived pretty much unharmed. Under the new Islamic rule with all the sectarian violence, the Jewish communities have had to flee to Israel and the Christian communities had to flee to secular Syria. They’re are currently militias committing crimes against humanity just as bad if not worse than Saddam’s secret police. The point is, we really don’t care about these people or under what rule they happen to be living under. We don’t care about their freedom. We don’t care about their religion and we don’t seem to care that tens of thousands of them have died (men, women and children) since we started this invasion. Tens of thousands of them that have not picked up a weapon against anybody. We don’t care about that neither.

I guess a good moral compass question to ask would be if Jesus was standing in front of you and you were to ask him if he believed in the War in Iraq? What do you believe his answer would be? Evil is an opinon of the side your on. We’re evil to them and they’re evil to us. I don’t recall seeing any Iraqis asking us for freedom and democracy. I don’t even recall that being the reason we started the invasion.

The logic of protecting the oil is simple; how many evil dictators exist in this World? The Royal family of Saud committed just as horrible rights violations as Saddam but we don’t care. They’re an ally so we don’t care. Darfur, Sudan, Haiti, and the list goes on and on. We don’t care and why? They got no oil so we don’t care. If Americans are smart enough to figure this out, don’t you think the enemy is smart enough to? They hate freedom? They’re protecting their oil. Freedom has nothing to do with it. Religion has nothing to do with it. Who do you think is paying for these people to set off bombs on a daily basis? Islam? Who paid for 9/11? The Muslim prophet? Name one Iraqi on board those planes on the morning of 9/11. Name one terrorist act committed against us or our allies by Iraq prior to 2003. Name one Iraqi who asked us for freedom and democracy. Hell, name one terrorist group in Iraq prior to 2003 besides the Al Qaeda training camps in Kurd territory?

What is evil is committing human lives to their graves without justification and that goes for both sides. It’s not a Republican, Conservative or a Neo-Con issue as Democrats did nothing to question this military action knowing damn well that we were letting the individuals responsible for 9/11 get a free pass. There ain’t a nickels difference between the two parties and democracy died decades ago. A totalitarian government under the illusion of a two party democracy. Total nonsense. You ever thought in your lifetime that you would hear the word “Liberal” used with the same venomous bigotry as the word “nigger”? Me neither.

I appreciate you attacking my logic and not me as a person. That is very rare amongst the right and the left these days. My comment about the video was over the top and I apologize for it.

  12. Karen Trevett Says:
    June 27th, 2006 at 3:53 pm

    Trevor,

Thank you for the apology. It is greatly appreciated.

I understand the emotion on this issue. Some of my best friends are on the other side of the isle and feel the same way. I wrote the original piece on the bog. My intention was not to attack the left but rather, as John conveyed, point out inconsistencies among Hollywood and the Carter types. I don’t think they understand the hypocrisy in what they say or do. They are most certainly morally confused. They bash our President, buy into conspiracies, and yet visit with Chavez and Castro.

Ask the American businessman who has invested his life savings into a patent and invention how he feels when Hugo Chavez says American patents should be used to our benefit Venezuela (more information can be found on WTO and US PTO sites); it is ok to infringe upon them. Ask Cuban refugees how they feel about Castro. It is bewildering to think an ex-president would completely lose his sense of right and wrong. How is this good for America? The answer is; it isn’t.

I Agree, things were better for women under Hussain however, one can simply not use that argument to explain away the murders, squandering of money and other atrocities the regime committed. It is illogical and irrational. You make a blank statement and say “we really don’t care about these people.” Please be more precise and provide factual information to support your claim. Who does not care you, and me, our government? I care, our troops care, our President cares. Why do you equate our govt and President to the same level as Hussain? Don’t let your hatred or distaste for his decisions cloud your ability to be rational. I did not care for Bill Clinton’s policies but certainly don’t think he was responsible for murdering people and would never accuse him of wagging the dog.

The original point I was trying to make was that it is not enough for the left opponents of the war to argue that the war is a mistake, was initiated due to faulty intelligence, or is being poorly handled. Rather, they charge that President with lying while they meet and greet dictators who have adversarial policies toward the US. I don’t buy into the left hysteria and believe the behavior hurts Americans.

    Thank you for your note.

Linking to this video by using an excuse that you are doing it for the edification of the people whom you accuse of consistently “overlooking” atrocities of this kind, is nonsense.

You are posting it because you enjoy it and you are, in fact, aiding and abetting the enemy by posting and linking to these videos.

If you wish to rationalize the posting of beheading videos–linking to them is the same thing–then why don’t you post the photos of dead Iraqi non-cambatant women and childred? Therein, unless you are bereft of a soul, is where you will find the true, hard and unexplainable atrocities.

Perhaps you over looked the site owner’s comments:

I wasn’t going to post or even link to, these types of videos anymore. I’m sick of them and sick of the people who find them entertaining. But I’m getting tons of hate mail from folks who manage to overlook the horrors committed in the name of Islam yet somehow find me offensive. This video is for you. You wrote:

The act of merely posting the link does not endorse, approve, abet or aid the individuals in the video. Watching would not make you a supporter either, in fact, it could have the opposite effect and in most cases would do just that. This is basic logic my friend. I walk across the street therefore, I am going on vacation. You try to draw a conclusion with a similar argument that is illogical.

    You wrote:

Edification of the people whom you accuse of consistently “overlooking” atrocities, what does this sentence mean? Failure to post civilian causalities is hardly the same thing as standing arm and arm with Castro, a man known for his intolerance. I believe Carter met with him in the recent months. I can’t imagine that the site owner is in the video or is endorsing this behavior. forgive my sarcasm but the entire premise of the first comment related to this point. I don’t see why you would not categorize the loss of the Russian officials lives as an atrocity. Sadly the jihadists killed a number of civilians but in this case, the people just happened to be government employees from Russia. Would this fit the description of an atrocity or do I sense an underlying theme that atrocities are only committed by members of the armed forces? Any loss of life is very sad (unless it is the life of a terrorist). The distinction between the two is that the armed forces do not, by routine and method, target civilians whereas, the terrorist do. This is there mission.

God bless the Russians and all the other innocent folks who have lost their lives. I pray that their families will find peace. Let’s make no mistake about it, this is an atrocity and let’s not forget it.

Don’t come after weak and fear ridden paper pushing peaceful activist humans who love you. Men like me are here, what are you really going to do about it?
