I can’t say that I’m surprised that this idea is being floated in the media:
A top Israeli official hinted for the first time that Israel was prepared to swap Palestinian prisoners for a captured soldier, saying Friday that the prisoners could be released as a goodwill gesture after the 19-year-old corporal was freed. It was not immediately clear whether public security minister Avi Dichter was speaking for the government or expressing a personal opinion.
If militants release Cpt. Gilad Shalit and stop rocket attacks from Gaza, “Israel will need to, after some time, release prisoners as a reciprocal gesture,” Dichter said in a speech to Israeli business people. “Israel knows how to do this. Israel has done this more than once in the past.”
Dichter also said Shalit is alive.
Hamas signaled it was prepared to strike a deal.
How are we supposed to fight a war on terror if the good guys cave in the face of adversity and strike deals that legitimize the barbarous tactics of the enemy?

I agree,
To many people making to many decisions about what to do.
Instead of having a cleat Idea about what Israel is doing, we hear a bunch of different ideas floating around.
It also gives hope to the terrorists that they might get what they want.
BTW – I just found your blog and so far I am very pleased with what you write – good work – I am thinking of adding it to my Blogroll.

The Israeliās know better. They know all too well where this will lead. Despite offering political concessions in addition to land, the Palestinians have rewarded any good faith by electing Hamas (a terrorist organization that has no interest in building schools, funding infrastructure or creating jobs).
I have come to the conclusion that the Palestinians are either very dim or even worse, agree with Hamas and feel the destruction of Israel is the only solution to the problem.
I highly doubt that this will take place and think the Israeli’s know that releasing prisoners would be detrimental to their own safety.
