With the XGL cube this would give you 8 virtual desktops. This just got added to my todo list.

How did you have your gnome panel stick to one monitor? are you using nvidia twinview.. i would really like to know how you set this up in detail..

Yeah, I’m with Rancid — I’d really like to get the panels to stay on one monitor, right now they span both and the compiz settings are the only ones that seem to work.
