Weekend Roundup

Eleanor Clift, William “Cold Cash” Jefferson, Assad, Putin, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Necromongers, Islamofacists, Mumia abu Jamal, Klingons, and Alec Baldwin all find their way into the blogosphere this weekend.

Michelle Malkin: Democrat Rep. William “Cold Cash” Jefferson cruised to victory yesterday, winning re-election to his ninth term in Congress. Looks like the race card paid off.

Cold Fury: Courtesy of some curmudgeonly, skeptical sort of dude, we hear the virtues of big meat extolled here. By a man. Ahem. Fear not, oh heterosexual ones, for apparently, ladies like big meat too.

Middle East Journal: The Assad regime is in a hurry. Nasrallah hasn’t been able to deliver quickly enough. The Grand Serail is a fortress, and the Lebanese street is slowly turning against the protestors, who don’t even have safe passage back to their homes now. The orders from the Dark Lord’s council are to pack more people in downtown Beirut, and as soon as possible. The plan to occupy or lay siege to the Rafik Hariri International airport seems to be in full swing, although the Lebanese army will reportedly not allow it.

Hyscience: In what amounts to essentially a dirty bomb being set off in Central London, someone in the Russian government has some serious explaning to do. I’m wondering just how high up this goes, and what role, if any, Putin played. In what amounts to essentially a dirty bomb being set off in Central London, someone in the Russian government has some serious explaning to do. I’m wondering just how high up this goes, and what role, if any, Putin played.

In The Bullpen: The Al-Furqan Foundation, a fancy name for an Al Qaida in Iraq propoganda wing, released a 33-page interview with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi where the now dead (insert applause and cheers here) Zarqawi says the Shia are worse than, get this, those drasted Americans and Saddam Hussein. In Al Qaida circles, being worse than the Americans puts a group into an all-new level of being despised, and Zarqawi’s hatred for the Shia puts his numerous declarations of war against the Shia in Iraq into a whole new light.

Instapundit: THE ISG: No Jews Allowed! “Arabs, Persians, Chinese commies, French obstructionists, Russian assassination squads. But no Jews. Even though Israel is the only country to be required to make specific concessions — return the Golan Heights, etc. Indeed, insofar as this document has any novelty value, it’s in the Frankenstein-meets-the-Wolfman sense of a boffo convergence of hit franchises: a Vietnam bug-out, but with the Jews as the designated fall guys.” (Via Newsbeat 1).

Israpundit: It is well known that most science fiction writers base their alien societies on historical human ones. Star Trek’s Klingons are essentially samurai who dress like heavy metal rock musicians, while Romulans are nothing more than Romans with spaceships, pointed ears, and green blood. Gordon R. Dickson does not even disguise his Swiss, excuse us, Dorsai mercenaries, who live in “cantons” on their home planet. It is equally clear that the writer of “Chronicles of Riddick” copied his villainous Necromongers from contemporary Islamofascists.

Outside the Beltway: Alec Baldwin has put his considerable brainpower to coming up with a solution to ill will toward the United States in the Middle East.

Sister Toldjah: Well today, Eleanor Clift has picked up on that theme and has therefore earned the distinction as ST’s jerk of the week for next week. Clift, as de Zengotita did, snootily wrote about the former president’s tears.

The Belmont Club: The West is not at war with terrorism, or radical Islamism. In fact, it’s not at war with anyone. Every British soldier killed or injured in Iraq or Afghanistan past a certain date can claim compensation for criminal assault, not combat, because the lawyers have determined there is no “war” going on. And there are no enemies. They are in fact — or perhaps more accurately in fiction — only criminals.

The Captain’s Journal: Ever wonder what a B-1B Bomber looks like after it has landed without the landing gear down?

Hugh Hewitt: The laughing commenced on the day of the Report’s release and has not died down. But I am certain that the serious people maintain their esteem for the careers of many of the participants on the ISG, and share my belief that as the weeks pass, some of them will shake off commissionitis and regain their bearings about the war. The temptation on the Commission members’ part will be to double down –Senator Simpson’s pre-emptive “seethers” comment from the press conference comes to mind. That truly would be folly. The gang misfired and produced a folly of historic proportions. Future commissions –please let the next one be years off– will begin with some admonition to avoid the fate of the ISG via genuine diversity of views and extended outreach to differing views.

Tel-Chai Nation: It is simply disgusting that some French leftists want to appease Muslims in St. Denis by naming a street after Mumia abu Jamal, who murdered Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner 25 years ago. This first happened in May. It wouldn’t surprise me if even Jaques Chirac, a neo-Vichyite himself, approved of this latest effort to stain and demonize his country.

Doug Ross @ Journal: Through a confidential informant, I’ve gotten access to an Associated Press cheat sheet. It provides their highly trained, professional journalists with crucial guidance on describing people and events. I reprint it here in its entirety. Don’t thank me… it’s for the all the budding journalists in the audience.

    Reelecting Cold Hard Cash Jefferson…

The story here is that incumbency provides huge advantages and it doesn’t matter how corrupt the politician is. Jefferson was found storing $90,000 in cold cash in his freezer. Federal investigations are racking up plea deals with associates and he’s…
