Getting Russia on board wasn’t easy:

On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin called President Bush to discuss the Iran vote, agreeing on the need to move forward with a resolution, said Blain Rethmeier, a spokesman for Bush. The two leaders “stressed the importance of maintaining a unified position on Iran’s nuclear program,” Rethmeier said.

Russia and China, which both have strong commercial ties to Tehran, have pressed for a step-by-step approach to sanctions. By contrast, the United States has pushed for very tough sanctions, with Britain and France taking a slightly softer view.

The final draft orders all countries to ban the supply of specified materials and technology that could contribute to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. It would also impose an asset freeze on key companies and individuals in the country’s nuclear and missile programs named on a U.N. list.

Iran warns there will be a reaction:

“We regard any such resolution against Iran as a wrong policy,” he underlined.

“We still insist that Iran’s nuclear dossier should be resolved through negotiations,” he pointed out.

“From early stages we were ready for negotiations but it was the Europeans who discontinued negotiations and closed other channels,” he said, adding that if they seek to deprive the Iranian nation of its legitimate rights to peaceful use of nuclear energy and issue any resolution against us, Majlis cannot ignore the legitimate rights of Iranians.

The Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Commission has ratified a bill authorizing Tehran to revise its relations with IAEA in case of any pressure, he said, adding that if they put pressure on Iran, the bill will be debated in Majlis.

Iran has also said that sanctions won’t keep them from reaching their goal. I think they’re probably correct.

Flopping Aces: More wrist slapping and finger pointing. Don’t you be bad Mr. Ahm mad in de head. or you will get it. None of us can be that surprised at the utter failure of the UN anymore right? It’s a useless corrupt virus of a organization and should be dismantled piece by piece.

The Political Pit Bull: And–big surprise here–they’re utterly meaningless.

Hot Air: Follow the timeline. It’s been three and a half years since the IAEA first flagged them for noncompliance with the Nonproliferation Treaty. And still the Security Council’s giving them more time: today’s sanctions do nothing more than freeze the assets of a few Iranian scientists and forbid sales of nuclear and missile equipment to Iran (which they already have), with a promise of more draconian measures to come if the mullahs don’t suspend enrichment soon.

Infidels Are Cool: I definitely feel safer, don’t you?

7.62mm Justice: Hey Ahmadinejad, Merry #$%^& Christmas!
