I think, in all honesty, we know what she was trying to say but boy did she ever screw it up:
Hillary Clinton today cited the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy during the 1968 presidential campaign to explain why she was remaining in the race despite long odds.
“We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California,” Clinton told the editorial board of a South Dakota newspaper. ” I don’t understand it,” Clinton added, alluding to the calls for her to quit.
Clinton made the statement after pointing out that her husband didn’t lock up the nomination until June of 1992, trying to point out that, by past history, it’s not late in the campaign.
But Barack Obama received Secret Service protection one year ago this month, the earliest ever in presidential history, after reports of threats.
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement: “Sen. Clinton’s statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign.”
Intent is kind of irrelevant at this point. She’s done.

I can not believe this thought ever crossed her mind. Is this what she is waiting for, someone to assassinate Obama. Hillary ought to be ashamed of herself. I hope the news media covers this like it should be because her comments really crossed more than a line time for her to take her self out of this race.
May 23rd, 2008 at 7:37 pm
This was an incredibly stupid thing to say. Regardless of her intentions…its just a horrible to thing to say and even think on two fronts…
1. To imply that she is waiting around like a buzzard waiting for an ‘opportunity’ from someone else’s demise…wow, thats mindblowing, and heart breaking.
2. With the unfortunate news that the Kennedy family recieved this week about Sen. Ted Kennedy’s brain cancer…to bring up another devasting family tragedy, is just heartless and thoughtless.
I was all for Hillary staying in the race until the end of the primaries. But, I see she is just making a horrible mess of it now with the grasping at straws as she sinks deeper and deeper into obscurity.
I still cant believe that someone with so much political ‘experience’ would say such a thing. Again, an indication of judgment.
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:10 pm
for cryin’ out loud: how do you come of age as a democratic, political activist in the 60s and NOT mention Bobby Kennedy?
Answer: You Don’t. But people like Obama and his fanatics have no clue: It’s hard-wired into your brain if you have any sense of history and have been impacted by the those times in history.
It would have been disingenuous and inauthentic NOT to have mentioned it in some way. Perhaps it was ‘inartful’ but for god’s sakes anyone with any sense of history understands this.
Add to that the fatique of campaigning, going without sleep for 36 hours and you too would be human.
get over it.
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:21 pm
What a stupid dusgusting article. It is clear what Hillary meant. She meant… that for some reason, there is a special emphasis on June and she doesn’t understand why eveyone wants her out. If anything she would be the one to be worried. She is leading with the votes and she is clearly the smart choice.
GET REAL!!!!!!!!
Hillary Clinton for President.
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Wow…this lady is nuts. If you can still support her after a statement like THAT (especially with the timing, given, like RealityCheck pointed out, the fragile health of Sen. Kennedy), then you must be twisted.
She’s practically wishing death on Obama while insensitively referring to one of the most tragic events in political history as a good reason not to cash in her chips.
If there was ever a time for superdelagates to come together and ask her to sit down, it would be now.
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:32 pm
This is the second time she has used the same justification for her lost cause (Time magazine March) but if I was Obama I would be concerned - anyone Googled Clinton Bidy count??
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:33 pm
but it was totally out of context,i am staying in the race because of a possible assaination of my opponent. which she can always suspend her run,she still don’t have to stay in. i believe like one other blogger could this be a signal to one of her white supremacist supporters
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:38 pm
smart choice….has anyone noticed how the “Smart Choice” signs emerged in concert with the erosion of her base, now characterized as largely “downscale, lower-educated,” etc.? From an objective perspective, these signs are a pitiful attempt to make her supporters feel better about themselves. Be that as it may, if she herself were smart she would have easily and quickly capitalized on the immense political capital she brought to this race as the frontrunner. She’s met her match, and she’s been OUTSMARTED. Now it’s time for change we can believe in.
Lest anyone be deluded into thinking that Hillary RODHAM (elitist?) Clinton misspoke, a reminder is in order. Although she is a master of what is increasingly exposed as a broken system, she remains a shrewd, calculating, seasoned politician who is skilled in slice and dice politics. Despite spin to the contrary, this comment was intentional and serves 3 purposes: (1) it perpetuates her brand of divisive politics by enraging one camp, (2) it speaks “code” to unstable elements who may act upon suggestions gleaned from history, and (3) it sends a vieled threat, in the form of historical metaphor, to Obama and those of us who support him that she and her side are willing to literally fight to the death.
This is Machiavellan means–ends politics in it’s coarsest form. I have confidence that the collective will of the party will reject this and take a higher road. Her legacy is forever tarnished, and her failure will be marked in history as the turning point where the raw and divisive politics of the gutter were eclipsed by a long-dormant popular will that was reinvigorated, arose, reclaimed its sovereign right, and once again demanded genuine representative government.
This is precisely the moment that Hillary–and all that she stands for–becomes the past. Goodbye Hillary, hello America!!
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Ya Know? She has just been added to the Huckaby list. I had convinced myself Huckaby was a ‘good’ conservative until his Freudian slip he made in his speech to the NRA. Now, we know where hid prejudice heart stands. I believe it would be easier to stomach Hillary if she was just prejudice, but, he Narcissistic character is quite scary! I always knew the Clinton machine will try anything, but, this comment beats it all! I’m sure she is contact with her ‘white hard=working’ voters.
May 23rd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Oh, so i see what the October surprise happenning in June really is..it’s the assasination of Barack Obama. Hillary is really bitter with
May 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
As a child my parents always told me they thought LBJ had a part in creating JFK’s death. HRC’s recent comments makes me think back on that viewpoint.
May 23rd, 2008 at 9:34 pm
So now we know the real agenda for the Clinton VP position !!
May 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
I’m hurt and I feel like nothing has changed Hllary is an undercover racist who’s true colors have come out. Now that she’s feeling a foot on her neck we can see her real personality scratching and clawing to survive. But to wish the death of Obama is just crazy, I always new that she’d do whatever it takes to win, but I hoped that even she had her limits. I feel that she’s trying to planting the seed in some crazy mind out there. I pray for Obama’s protection and that he has the good judgement not to make her his V.P. that would be a DEADLY MISTAKE.

You’re sick Ann Coulter. The media has been the only goat in the race. For people to then take this as applying to Mr. Obama is as sick as someone like you to suggest it. Mr. Obama, live a long, happy life! Signed, a Hillary Clinton hard core supporter.
May 23rd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Cliton’s statement is 100% intentional, same as Pres Clinton’s race invocation. This is war without end. She should not have said this. Big Big mistake.
May 23rd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Hillary Clinton should not apologize for the remark she said of Robert F. Kennedy. He was the senator of New York in 1968; she holds the same senate seat that Bobby Kennedy held.
It will be the 40th anniversary of Robert F. Kennedy assassination on June 6th. With all the hype of Ted Kennedy and his brain tumor and the tragedies concerning the Kennedy family, it is on a lot of people’s minds, especially the baby boomers of the 1940’s, 50’s, who saw and lived that tumultuous 60’s era like myself.
It is only fair that we also remember Bobby Kennedy, a young life cut short by a senseless act. No one should apologize for at least remembering Bobby Kennedy and for what he stood for.
On CNN there were special news segment on the 40th anniversary of the Martin Luther King assassination. It was televised for a whole month, Hillary Clinton and John McCain was present at the memorial given for Martin Luther King. Obama was not present; I guess he had better things to do than to be there.
I only hope that CNN will give the same courtesy to the memory of Robert F. Kennedy -
Quote of Robert F. Kennedy: Voice of the People
“All great questions must be raised by great voices of the people -
Speaking out - in prose, or painting or poetry or music; speaking out - In homes and halls, streets and farms, courts and cafes - let that Voice speak and the stillness your heart will be the gratitude of Mankind”.
May 23rd, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Hillary is not sleep deprived and knows what she’s saying. For her to quote the same statements in three or more separate instances, just tells us that she’s aware of her statements and meant every word she said. Her true colors are coming out…evil black. I just hope the undecided superdelagates start flooding to Obama’s side after this. We need to put an end to Hillary’s lunacy.

OKAY! OKAY! I NEVER..NEVER POST ON THESE BLOGS…ALL I EVER DO IS READ, AND SMILE AT THE CHOICE WORDS FROM BLOGGERS FROM BOTH SIDES. BUT NOT THIS TIME!!!! NOT TODAY!!! I HAVE TO BREAK MY SILENCE! I AM A BARACK SUPPORTER, BUT OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS, I DECIDED THAT EVEN THOUGH PUTTING HILLARY ON THE TICKET WOULD BE BAD FOR EVERYTHING BARACK STANDS FOR, I WAS SATISFIED WITH HER BEING HIS VP. BUT NOT TONIGHT! NOT ANYMORE I’D RATHER BARACK NOT BE PRESIDENT THAN TO SEE HER AS VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I RESPECTED HER FOR HER TENACITY AND STRONG WILL TO FIGHT TO THE END…BUT TO INVOKE THE KENNEDY ASSASSINATION THIS AFTERNOON IS UNFORGIVABLE AND SICK. WHAT DOES HILLARY THINK WILL HAPPEN IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO BARACK??? DOES SHE THINK THAT SHE WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN INHERIT HIS SUPPORTERS. THIS TACTIC IS LOW AND DESPICABLE.
May 23rd, 2008 at 10:53 pm
I think she is dangerous for our nation and her comments reiterate how dangerous she is by the mere suggestion of drawing images of a leader being assassinated as one of our nation’s biggest tragedies. She is a person who will do ANYTHING to win and ANYTHING to keep on winning. This is apparent. I used to like Sen. Clinton, and during the course of her campaign, I have come to detest her and the politics she attempts to use in order to “win”. She is dangerous and invokes dangerous strategies. She not only should put an end to her campaign but should resign her seat in the Senate. People like her have NO PLACE in politics. She DOES NOT represent the sentiment of most Americans, whether they are in New York or anywhere else, for that matter. SHE ONLY REPRESENTS HERSELF.
May 23rd, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Obama don’t blame your ills on society when you yourself could of made a difference.
Faith does play a big part of who we are.
God Bless America land that I love. Crown thy good with brotherhood. I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
In those words above it does not say “GOD DAMN AMERICA” The company you keep, the lack of judgment says it all! If Obama really felt for America, why did he stay in this church that practices hate and bigotry for 20 years? He gave tithes of $27,000.00 to “Uncle” Rev. Wrights church last year!
Why did he and his family stay in this church who used the tragedy of 911, 6 days after it happened, as a joke. When 9-11 happened, it impacted the very core of all Americans and of the countless of families that still grieve for their loss.
“I did not attend my “Uncles’” church for 20 years and listened to disparaging remarks, towards race nor of America”– but he did!
WHERE WAS HIS JUDGMENT!!!
Yet Obama stayed in this church that practices hate and played the race card for 20 years.
I cannot see Obama as President, he did not see the difference of hate and division?
I want a President who is going to represent me and this great nation without prejudice of race, nationality, or gender.
A strong leader who unites Americans and not divides them. A President who will represents all Americans no matter what color, creed, or religion. What is right is right when I see wrong its wrong.
Obama does not deserve to be President!

I am a hard working 56 year old white boy living in Lawrenceville, GA. I lived through the RFK assasination. Hillary is a scumbag. She has no shame. She touts herself as being intelligent and able to answer the phone at 3am… She has passed the point of stepping down gracefully. She knew exactly what she was saying. She can’t stand the heat. She needs to get the hell out of the kitchen…NOW.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:43 am
I believe Sen. Clinton is very disingenuous about her apology. This is something that she not only stated before, but stated rather easily. I believe the only thing she is truly sorry about is that someone paid attention to what she was saying and that she couldn’t just come out and say what she meant. “Hey all you white working class men out there who wont vote for Obama. Time is running out. If I’m going to be the candidate, someone better take care of him quickly!”
It is really disgusting! It is clear that she will say anything and do anything to get elected. Why would he want her for his VP now? So she can be his Carl Rove? I thought we wanted change?
May 24th, 2008 at 12:46 am
Being a supporter of the democratic party all my life, I can not stand Obama or his wife, and it is not racial! He is a total scumbag with no alligence to my country, the USA where I was born, raised and proudly served in the military as a young woman 30 years ago. The best person for the President of the United States of America is Hilary Clinton. If not the nominee in June, I for one, will denounce my affiliation with the democratic party, and since I will not have anything to do with the republicans either, then my vote will go to(?) Hilary has the majority vote. Obama needs to drop out!
May 24th, 2008 at 1:00 am
The heading of this blog has been writen by a very disturbed crazy person. There is only so much that a sane mind can twist a fact. This goes beyond that maximum threshold. I dont want to waste any more energy with this lunacy.
Support Hillary!!
May 24th, 2008 at 1:13 am
Someone once called her a monster, now you all can see why! Hillary is really a MONSTER… God bless America, God bless Obama!
May 24th, 2008 at 1:35 am
I am appalled! I never thought she would reach this low. I have always respected the Clintons, but that has now changed. I believe she knew exactly what she was saying. This is not the first time she’s made fear-mongering comments. How could she inject the painful, horrible memories of past assassinations into this campaign. This is unforgivable.
May 24th, 2008 at 1:59 am
OBAMA, PELOSI, DEAN, REID, KENNEDY, KERRY, CARTER, RICHARDSON, AND EDWARDS ARE IDIOTS!
NOW THE DEMS ARE ASKING FOR PELOSI’S OPINION OF HILLARY???
WHO CARES WHAT PIG PELOSI THINKS! THE “BIG-WIG” DEMS ARE DESTROYING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. THEY DID NOT LISTEN TO THE “PEOPLE” WHO PUT THEM IN OFFICE. WE NEED TO REPLACE THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
THE BIASED MEDIA AND THE BIG-WIG DEMS ARE PROTECTING CRY-BABY-BAMA AGAIN!
Give me a break — why should she apologize to Obama or the Kennedy family? That doesn’t even make any sense. She was saying that Bobby Kennedy’s campaign went into June, and the only thing that knocked him out of the race was death — and her race is closer than his was, so why should she stop? What are you people even talking about?
There is nothing wrong with pointing to a historical event to remind people that the primaries were still in full contest in June 1968, when RFK was assassinated? There is nothing evil or wrong about that, just like there was nothing wrong with pointing out LBJ’s role in the civil rights legislation getting passed. People just don’t like Hillary and they will ‘CLING’ to anything to try and make her look
bad.
People just like to twist every word the Clintons say. I’m no longer amazed. Hillary was merely citing a historical political fact that there have been other primaries that went well into June or to the Convention.
Let’s not forget — even Senator Ted Kennedy went all the way to the Democratic convention against President Carter.
SENATOR CLNTON WAS SIMPLY POINTING OUT THAT THE BIASED MEDIA, THE BIG-WIG DNC AND THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS ARE TRYING TO GET HER TO DROP OUT BEFORE IT’S OVER.
IT WON’T BE OVER UNTIL THE CONVENTION!
WE CAN’T GO THROUGH THE NEXT 4 TO 8 YEARS WALKING ON EGGSHELLS FOR “SENSITIVE” OBAMA. HE IS SUCH A GIRLY MAN.
WE NEED EXPERIENCE IN OUR WHITE HOUSE. OBAMA’S GREATEST EXPERIENCE IS CONSTANTLY LYING, HIDING BEHIND THE BIASED MEDIA AND BIG-WIG DNC MEMBERS, AND “RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT”.
NO BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!
May 24th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Again, Hillary’s words are taken out of context - it’s very evident that Clinton was talking about other primaries going into June. Personally, I think the DNC was hedging bets for OBAMA by having delegates come from caucus groups rather than ballots- like in WA state - our votes were not really counted - it was a conflict of interest - the caucus date was 2/5/08 and poorly published in the area, and the actual vote (we all thought) was on 2/19/08. Confusion reigns and Obama gains. Keep the bloody elections the same across all states and for the primaries - that’s where Obama has gotten his delegates - not from the majority of the people. He doesn’t even know how many states there are - in the US. - 57 - 59….he’s a slick, silver tongued devil and people are going to wake up — hopefully before it’s too late.
NO OBAMA!
May 24th, 2008 at 2:22 am
To Obama Supporters,
Thank you for cementing the divide that already exists in the Democratic Party. I was already convinced before today that I would not only vote for McCain, but campaign on his behalf if Obama is the Nominee. And by continuing these disgusting attacks on Hillary Clinton today you are convincing many more of Hillary Clinton supporters to join the VOTE MCCAIN OR ABSTAIN camp. The Obama Campaign and supporters who are trying to use this incident to win over the Superdelegates and to force Hillary Clinton out of this race have done grave damage to Obama, because this nastiness will be deeply heartfelt by Hillary Clinton supporters. Hillary Clinton supporters represent 50% of the votes cast in these Democratic Primaries, many of which would never vote for Obama and after today many more feel the same!
With regards to the VP Slot, it is Obama who needs help with the Latino, Women, Catholic, Jewish, and White Rural Blue Collar voters, all of which have voted for Hillary Clinton. And I say no way to Hillary Clinton as VP, neither Obama nor his supporters deserve your help, especially after today’s unjust and evil attacks! Obama can not win without Hillary Clinton as VP and can not win without her supporters votes. And as such Obama will lose the National Election if he is the Nominee and we will have our day to celebrate!
May 24th, 2008 at 2:54 am
Listen, I don’t see any reason in even thinking that was what she meant… Everyone claims a statement such as this one HAS to be the works of a racist waiting for the black man to die… It was a simple reminder of the past, nothing more, nothing less! I, myself find that the kenedy assassination was an important role in the political past… Yes… Bringing that up was bad timing, and inapropriat, but to claim racism… Or that she was admiting to hiring an assassin to kill Obama at the election… IS STUPID! I know nothing of the political complexities of this country, nor do I care… But yelling racism every time someone speaks out of term ABOUT HISTORY!! Just goes to prove, this country is downhill…
May 24th, 2008 at 3:31 am
Hillary Clinton didn’t realize that the media would eventually pick this up and run with it if she kept using the RFK analogy? She could of simply said “We all know the primaries with RFK in the 60’s lasted until june”. The fact she brought up that he was assasinated seemed terribly awkward to me, it just didnt fit with what she was ultimately trying to convey! I mean, she doesn’t gain anything by saying something like that, so WHY SAY IT?
May 24th, 2008 at 5:50 am
Hillary hoping that Obama MAY suffer the same fate as Bobby Kennedy?
Responding to a question…Hillary said: “MY HUSBAND DID NOT WRAP UP THE NOMINATION IN 1992 UNTIL HE WON THE CALIFORNIA PRIMARY SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE OF JUNE, RIGHT? WE ALL REMEMBER Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. You know I just, I DON’T UNDERSTAND IT,” she said, dismissing the idea of abandoning the race. CLINTON SAID she didn’t understand why, GIVEN THIS HISTORY, some Democrats were calling for her to quit.
This was not an offensive statement. It was cold, cruel and calculating!! The media never call a spade a spade. Everyone seem afraid to say what seem to be behind her statement. If Obama had said it…ha! She would have belittled him and hammer him all over again. How much more desperate can she get? Afte all the lynching and still very racit happenings in this society, Michelle Obama felt deeply proud that white were voting for her husband. By showing her heartflt gratitude by expressing how proud she wa, the media and Clintons made a big nnecessary uproar over a simple but passionate statement. Now look at this…which is worst? Which shows grovelling to the lowest of the low?
May 24th, 2008 at 5:57 am
If Hillary gets VP, she would still in th eback of her mind hoping that Obama would fall (killed) so that she could get the presidency. This is why they are pushing for the ticket. Why not add Chelsea too? Therefore all the Clinton’s would have been presidents. Is this becoming another Russia?
May 24th, 2008 at 5:58 am

May 24th, 2008 at 6:31 am
Hillary’s words are taken out of context again and CNN is blowing another one way out of proportion. If you think it’s ok to vote and have voted for Obama just because of skin color your votes should not even count in this election. Bunch of hypocrites. Can anyone Tell me what Obama has done for this country? can anyone tell me why people are running to the polls and voting for him other than having black skin. Get a grip on reality. If you have no idea why your voting other than skin color or voting for a female then don’t vote. You are making this country a JOKE…..
Hillary don’t give up I want you for president and if you drop out i’m going republican.
May 24th, 2008 at 6:33 am
Yes, we know exactly what she was saying. “KKK, Red necks, All Racial Whites, I am calling on you, please kill Obama because that is the only way I can win the nomination”. This is an evil woman mascarading as a Champion of Womem Rights. Democrats must realize that this women is a desparate and calculating person with a entitlement banner all over her. Hillary would have Obama poison if she was to go into the White House with him. Like us not forget what happen to Mr. Foster in his White House office. An issue that was never resolved during the Clinton Administration.
May 24th, 2008 at 7:14 am
What’s wrong with what Hillary said? She outlined an extreme case, a worst case scenario to justify her actions. Isn’t that why many of our citizens backed the Patriot Act? Isn’t that why we submitted to having our tweezers confiscated by airlines? Isn’t that why our Constitution provided for the Speaker of the House taking over in the event both the President and Vice President died so that the leadership of our country would not be up for grabs?
When is it that we’ll buy the argument about the worst case scenario and when will we tisk and click and be outraged that someone dare bring it up and label that person as a hysteric, or as engaging in mean-spirited negativism? It boils down to our egos. When we see the worst case scenario marketing as protecting us and our wallets, we love it. For instance, the Patriot Act. In the weeks and years following 9/11, news clip after news clip showed consumers accepting delays and happily handing over their shampoo, tweezers and fellow citizens for searches as a legitimate trade off to stop terrorism. Somewhere in all that the training the terrorists got on US grounds was forgotten, the fact that they were photographed by airline security was forgotten, and their non-citizen status was forgotten. Instead, we took control of our fear by removing our underwire bras and mouthwash bottles when we traveled.
We’re doing the same thing with our “health care crisis”. Anyone who is sick, or old, or potentially sick is a threat to those who consider themselves eternally young, eternally healthy, and therefore entitled to “affordable” health insurance. Instead of focusing on the situation which involves too little coverage for too much cost in combination with too much rise in the cost of medical services, we’re taking control of our own wallets and ignoring that everyone who submits to the reasoning that only the healthy and strong are entitled to affordable health insurance coverage is also at risk for being cast out of the ever-shrinking eligibility for health insurance.
But successful worst case scenario marketing has another hook beyond the “it could happen to you” approach, it also involves matters that people consider “too big” to handle themselves. 9/11 was too big for us to handle so we left it to government. The governmental missteps in handling 9/11 at this point can fill volumes but we still flounder and flip around helplessly hoping that giving over everything including our good sense to “government” will make us feel safe.
What can we do about the health services crisis? The problem’s “too big” so we allow big business and big government to work things out. And, like our reaction to 9/11, we gain control by telling ourselves that someone else is taking care of things. But, like our reaction to 9/11, it’s not working. And like our reaction to 9/11, trying to fix things after the fact is harder, more difficult, more expensive and less likely than fixing the problem to begin with would have been had we not handed over our proxy without any limitations.
So what did Hillary say that was wrong? She rolled out the worst case scenario but she did it for her own personal reasons…that’s what came across. When our President led us into Iraq and an endless war, we were sold based on lies (or mistakes if you omit all the evidence to the contrary) and then rationalized that it wasn’t a bad thing since we didn’t like Saddam Hussein anyway, but we resisted a conclusion that it was personal for George Bush, that he’d used our country’s resources and his trust as our country’s President for a selfish purpose. Not only did Ms. Clinton bring out a worst case scenario for seeming self-promotion, but citizens aren’t worried about whether Hillary or Obama will win, really they’re not. And the personal arguing between the two misses the point for the American people, that this squabble highlights some real issues in our process that do threaten individuals, whether it’s the individuals in Florida and Michigan whose votes are meaningless because of the combined judgments of the Democratic Party, the maneuverings of the candidates within that party and the independence of the electoral college or the fact that the campaigning process itself is an overly expensive and overly time-consuming activity that keeps two senators away from performing their jobs as senators.
Hillary left out some sentences in her remarks…the ones justifying her worst case scenario example with the history of the US and our forefathers’ wisdom in creating a system that protects against the worst case scenario….you know, the selfless commitment to the US and the American way…
Worst case scenario arguments work with our health services crisis for the same reason, the perception that it’s too big (and therefore should be someone else’s problem) and the perception that we’re protected by going along with big health insurers and the government in keeping ourselves insured. No amount of reality will penetrate this block, NOT the millions of uninsured US citizens, NOT the tiered system of health services with better services available to the rich and our voted representatives arguing that the rich have a RIGHT to better health care because they can afford it, NOT the absolute disgusting sentiment expressed in the selection process of who is the Darwinian favorite for the survival of our species at a cheap cost, NOT the fact that we are sending an entire new generation into the world without the expectation that they can afford health care (see statistics on new graduates), NOT any idea that the country that makes business prosper should demand that business partner with its greatest resource, it’s people in achieving that profit, NOT an idea of fairness that the oldest and sickest have paid more to insurance companies than the young and healthy and therefore have EARNED the right to affordable health insurance, and NOT any idea that price-gouging by physicians is something that can be addressed because after all, they’re doctors. Instead, we’ll hand it over to the insurance companies to solve the problem and let them continue to pursue their goal of minimum risk for maximum premium, we’ll trust big government responding to health insurance and medical lobbyists and we’ll hold on to our own little piece of health insurance until we get sick and realize that we don’t make the cut either…and instead of calling it tyrannical, barbaric, inhumane and Un American, we’ll try to sell it as capitalism and the most American thing in the world.
May 24th, 2008 at 7:31 am
I just have one question for all of you Clinton supporters. Do you honestly believe that Obama would get the same benefit of the doubt that Clinton is getting? She has referenced race and assassination multiple times during this campaign. I have never in any election heard references to guns (see Mike Huckabee) and assassination as much as I have in this race. You people should be ashamed of yourselves for turning a blind eye to this blatant racism. And you wonder why a black person would be ashamed of this country.
May 24th, 2008 at 7:55 am
Hillary has shown time and time again that her judgment is poor, i.e., her mismanaged campaign, her mismanaged husband, her mismanaged staff, her miscalculations, her misspeaks CONTINUALLY!!!! ………….
Let go and let the party come together as a united front. The forces that have driven this country apart for the past eight years must be stopped & swept from the White House … it’s time to step down and encourage your supporters to support the Democratic party. We NEED to win the Whitehouse back. Our country can’t take another 4 years of Bush which is what we’ll get with McSame.
When will this end. Enough already, Hillary. ENOUGH!!!!
May 24th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Hillary Clinton is evil. George Bush is evil. Can we just elect someone who is not evil?
May 24th, 2008 at 8:12 am
Please… This is a call to Senator Hillary Clinton’s extreme supporters to assassinate Senator Barack Obama so she can become the Democratic Nominee then to the presidency. I’m disgusted. This proves that Senator Hillary Clinton is in bed with the Republicans Party to eliminate Senator Barack Obama candidacy.

This should be the last straw, time for the superdelegates to end this primary season and confirm that Barack is the Democratic candidate for president in 2008. Anyone who believes that her remark about Bobby Kennedy’s assassination is not a direct association to the possibility of Obama being assassinated, making her the nominee, I’ve got some land on the Brooklyn Bridge to sell you. She is truly a sick person and it is an outrage that she is allowed to stay in this race, making such disgusting comments. SUPERDELEGATES UNITE! Let’s end this thing and let Barack focus on defeating McCain in November!
May 24th, 2008 at 9:33 am
its a dam shame that because hillary clinton is a white women she gets away with anything and the white media always makes excuses for what ever she says.and the sick racist white women who dont care what she said they will support her anyway.what if barrack obama would have made a statement like that about her ,they would be an outrage.obama has done all he can to be respectful to mrs clinton and all she does is return to him the worst she can think of.now she wants him dead.what about his two girls they should go fatherless so she can have her way.michelle should be a widow so hillary can have her way.white america will make excuses cause they always feel its ok to kill blacks of any walk of life.but black america has been punched in the face time and time again by hillary clinton and we,re tired o her racist supporters.she needes to get out of the race right now ..
May 24th, 2008 at 9:49 am
Hilary is finished…….
That’s a classic freudian slip coming from her. It as if, she is subliminaly putting ideas into some wacko’s head out there.
She is probably thinking, if Pakistan can do it, then why can’t we ? I really want to become the president, and if somone needs to die, then so be it…….
May 24th, 2008 at 9:50 am
god bless chris mathews and the greatest jurnolist of our time kieth olberman.they tell the truth and they are honest with there self.hillary is a monster in every way.of course there are women who could be president.women who have grace and morals such as laura bush.nancy pelosi.condi rice and hundreds of others.hillary is not in a class with these great women roll models.she is the devil to suggest murder as way to get the nomination.there is no way she should be allowed to remain in this race.its a smack in the face to every american she has done enough damage and she needs to be shown the door.
May 24th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Wow, those of us who have been watching this race all over the world are deeply surprised and ashamed that many Americans continue to make excuses for Hillary Clinton. She is doing your country a great disservice at a time when all of us desperately need a new kind of politics. She has set the women’s and civil rights movement back a hundred years with her campaign “blunders”. We hope that you all do what the rest of the world is hoping and praying for: elect President Obama
May 24th, 2008 at 10:45 am
She can no longer bow out of the race gracefully. She will go down in history as a disgusting excuse for a person.
May 24th, 2008 at 11:03 am
You should be ashamed with your headline. OBAMA supporters and OBAMA should apologize.
Robert Kennedy Jr. issued the following statement this evening:
Quote:

Quote:
It is clear from the context that Hillary was invoking a familiar political circumstance in order to support her decision to stay in the race through June. I have heard her make this reference before, also citing her husband’s 1992 race, both of which were hard fought through June. I understand how highly charged the atmosphere is, but I think it is a mistake for people to take offense.
May 24th, 2008 at 11:08 am
She knows exactly what she is saying. She smart and that’s what makes her more frightening. See the documentary, “Our Brand is Crisis” and you’ll see how calculating her campaign really is. Here’s what we’ve learned from the Clintons: The Republicans were right in the 90s, the media controls our little brains, and everyone has an insatiable need to be right.
May 24th, 2008 at 11:09 am
I can’t believe Hillary continues to talk about her husband’s 1992 campaign not being wrapped up until June as well as Bobby Kennedy’s campaign ending with his assassination in June. In April 1992 Bill had the nomination virtually in hand and Jerry Brown played the spoiler until June… Though Brown (like Hillary now) didn’t have much of a chance he continued to fight until the very end; this wasn’t good for the party then and it’s not good for the party now! Ultimately Bill won the nomination w/ 3372 while Brown had 596 (not much of a nail biter but Hillary seems to have forgotten this). In fact, there was a bit of a controversy over whether Brown would talk at the convention in 1992 because it wasn’t clear if he would endorse Clinton. Does Hillary want to play the role of spoiler in the same way Brown did? Did Hillary think Brown was doing the right thing by staying in the race, and did she think Brown’s actions were good for the party in 1992? I don’t think so — give me a break! In terms of the 1968 election, Lyndon Johnson the incumbent only dropped out of the race due to failing health March 31. Also, the NH primary was only in mid-March back then, and only 13 states had primaries in that year. So given the late start, of course the campaign was still running in June. And what was the outcome — the Republicans (Nixon) won that year — is that really a great comparison to make for her? Does she want a repeat of 1968 (i.e., a win for McCain)?
May 24th, 2008 at 11:15 am
I cannot believe that she commented on the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy as a part of her campaign. Some Clinton supporters think that she just acknowledged the assassination of RFK, but she could have done that any point of time in the past. It was clear that she was using the RFK assassination to send the hidden message (although it was not hidden at all) that “In case something happen to Obama, I will cling on to this race till the end.” Martin Luther King Jr. and RFK were killed because they were the two major civil rights advocates in 60s, and Hillary Clinton has been moving towards the opposite direction from MLK Jr and RFK. I doubt that she has much of respect to them.
May 24th, 2008 at 11:27 am
I understand completely the role of the Superdelegate. The superdelegates are all educated, intelligent and reasonable people chosen to have some influence in who is the nominee of the democratic party. It is very interesting that if you look at the people who back Barack, they are the educated, more intelligent people living in our country. Those backing Hillary are mostly uneducated. This is why Obama can raise so much money and Clinton is $20 million in debt, those backing Hillary don’t and won’t contribute to her campaign. Those uneducated Americans are, in my opinion, unable to see past her lies (dodging bullets in Bosnia, the story about the girl in Ohio who “had no health insurance” and was turned away from the hospital - the girl HAD health insurance and received full medical care), pandering (gas tax relief for the summer which NO economist says is a good idea and which she cannot deliver anyway), so it is the job of the superdelegates to counterbalance those who do not really understand the issues or the candidates, those who really think Hillary can deliver a gas tax-free summer need to have their vote discounted somehow, because they obviously don’t understand that no matter what she says or promises, it won’t happen. Obama is the BEST thing to happen in politics in a long time. His policies and judgement are right on! Something MUST be done about the lobbyists and the special interest groups who currently control everything. These groups are the main reason our country is in the poor shape it is in today. The lobbyists for the oil companies, health insurance companies, drug companies have devastated our economy! People are spending so much for gas and health insurance, they can’t afford to purchase other products that keep the economy strong. Those who say he is all talk and no substance either have not been listening, or are not intelligent enough to understand what he is saying. He has great thoughts and policies on how to change the way our country is run, that will benefit the majority of the people, and not the richest few (as things are under the Bush administration). He has excellent agendas on health care (I have ideas to make it even better, starting with limiting how much each health insurance company keeps for profit and breaking up the monopolies that have been created under the Bush administration over the past 5 years), energy, education, and foreign policy. I am not trying to be divisive to the party or to put down those that support Hillary, but the truth is the truth. Obama is the best person to be answering that 3 am phone call!
May 24th, 2008 at 11:31 am
We are outraged!!! How can anyone in their right mind make excuses for the stupid statment Hillary Clinton made for her excuse to stay in this race.”Sen.Obama could get assassinated IN JUNE!!!” This is crazy If Obama had made such a statement Mainstream media would demand his exit. Hillary has made these stupid statements before and has constanly stated she is staying race in case “something happens” now we know what her something is!! Sen Clinton has made these statement three times and with her referance to “something can happen” look at the entire picture and STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR HILLARY CLINTON”!!! SUPERDELEGATES IT’S TIME TO SHOW HER THE DOOR!
May 24th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Perhaps we need to consider what it is for Mrs. Clinton in these hours of doubt, a slip of the tongue should be the measure of this wonderful woman? Unlike those Godawful words of that Wright preacher, so she is not as polished as we would assume of her , but cant we all just forgive the short comings of the Exfirstlady after all she has her heart set on returning to the white house as Boss this time don’t that mean anything to us hard working uninformed Americans regardless of implications of harm to the next guy. Win at all’s cause or demise… win win win baby!!
May 24th, 2008 at 11:47 am
I really don’t understand why it’s either Hilary/Obama OR McCain. NOW is the time to come together as a whole party and see the BIG PICTURE. To renounce your democratic beliefs and participation because your chosen democratic candidate didn’t win the primary is appalling; wasn’t Bush enough trauma? Let’s restore and revolutionize our country by sticking together for ALL AMERICA; let’s show the world our real potential!
May 24th, 2008 at 11:47 am
This was an intentional subliminal message to all of Hillary’s psychotic supporters crazy enough to try something as horrific as assination! I don’t know who she(Hillary) thinks she is kidding but she isn’t fooling the outspoken majority.
The DNC is letting her get away with 1) race baiting 2) gender bias 3) openly hostile remarks that have the potential to be deadly!
There is absolutely no possible way had Obama made the same remarks as Hillary that the DNC or anyone involved in the political process would let him get away with.
I applaud Keith Oberman for being the only news repoter to oopenly spek what he as well as many Americans feel is the truth behind yet another of “fatigued misspeaks.”
Hillary time for you and Bill to call it a day and carry your butts home…afterall the main reason you really want back in the White House is to steal what ever you couldn’t get your hands after you left the first time!
May 24th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
I am sicken by Mrs.Clinton’s words. She has said and done some questionable things in the past, but this is the most uncalled for and disrespectful of all. It’s almost as if she is trying to summon one of her supporters to knock Obama off because it is her only means to getting the nomination. If it isn’t her plan she sure as heck may have put it into one of her supporters thoughts.
What is even more disappointing it will be yet another situation where poor Hillary will get a pass. Why because, everyone else is giving her the benefit of the doubt, making tired excuses for her and feeling sorry for her, including Obama and his camp. When Obama made the “bitter” comment there were no excuses for him. Hillary and her camp jumped on it and made it larger than life and he paid daily for it, over and over again so much so we now have a new word “bittergate”.
The Dem’s have shown they will allow this one woman make a fool of them. They wont make a move because they don’t wont to hurt her feelings, yet she has proven that she has no love or respect for her on party. She wants to win at any cost, even if it destroys the party. All the while the repub’s laugh.
DEM’S wake up enough is enough, you jave your party’s NOM it is Obama end this while the Dem’s still look entact. If it goes on any longer you will lose support of your people and all hopes to having a DEM as President will be lost.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
I think that this just shows what she us really thinking and it shows, that like she said at the beginning, “I will do whatever it takes to win.” It’s the cannot be defeated attitude the Clintons has, as if the country owes them something. Just like she is saying she has the most experience to be president from day one. Does she really? Has she been president before? No! So, even though she was govenor of NY or whatever, does not mean she has the experience to be president. It’s a known fact that all presidents have had advisors on different issues. But her statements yesterday just shows what is in her heart. Because from the heart the mouth speaks. It’s cruel. It shows that she needs a doctor because she is really mental.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Here’s why Hillary’s ‘history’ excuse doesn’t work for me. The primary election calendars in 1992 and 1968 were longer and extended well beyond this year’s end date.
In reality, President Clinton essentially secured the nomination after the Illinois primary. The date was March 17, 1992. And if she wants to use 1968 as an example, she ought to mention that only 13 states held primaries that year. No Michigan primary in 1968 either.
Hillary and the people who have made excuses for her ‘gaffe’ ie, she’s tired, she didn’t intend to offend, demonstrate an all too casual attitude toward the importance of avoiding any comments that are so offensive.
They demonstrate the continued willingness to enable her and many others who have deep seated unconscious prejudices by saying she’s not blatantly biased nor intent on hurting race relations in the country, but Hillary and the MSM do so because they aren’t trying hard enough to avoid that possibility. Period.
To me, unconscious prejudice is the most dangerous, insidious kind. Racism, conscious and unconscious is an issue this nation cannot afford to ignore, or excuse, right now. And that means Senator Clinton and the MSN pundits, as well as the superdelegates who continue to endorse her need to honestly and seriously examine their own.
As Barack so eliquently said in his speech on race on March 18 ‘The fact is that the comments that have been made and the issues that have surfaced over the last few weeks reflect the complexities of race in this country that we’ve never really worked through - a part of our union that we have yet to perfect. And if we walk away now, if we simply retreat into our respective corners, we will never be able to come together and solve challenges like health care, or education, or the need to find good jobs for every American.’
From a hard working, middle class white woman, ‘Not this time.’ For the sake of a more perfect union, ‘Not this time.’
May 24th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
SUPERDELEGATES UNITE! LET'’S END THE PRIMARY SEASON SO BARACK CAN START PREPARING FOR MCCAIN. HILLARY CAN WIN 80% OF THE REMAINING STATES AND THE REMAINING SUPERDELEGATES AND BARACK STILL CROSSES THE FINISH LINE (CHECK IT OUT YOURSELF) - IT'’S SIMPLE MATH. WE HAVE A CANDIDATE, ITS TIME TO MAKE IT OFFICIAL. HILLARY, YOU HAD BETTER PRAY NOTHING HAPPENS TO OBAMA NOW, OR YOU MAY BE A PRIME SUSPECT, OR AT LEAST A SUSPECTED ACCOMPLICE.

Scary skeletons in Clinton’s closet. The Clintons have powerful connections. No charges are being made:
1-James McDougal - Clinton ’s convicted Whitewater partner died of an apparent heart attack, while in solitary confinement. He was a key witness in Ken Starr’s investigation.

A pathologist close to the investigation reported that there was a hole in the top of Brown’s skull resembling a gunshot wound. At the time of his death Brown was being investigated, and spoke publicly of his willingness to cut a deal with prosecutors. The rest of the people on the plane also died. A few days later the air Traffic controller committed suicide.

11-Kathy Ferguson- Ex-wife of Arkansas Trooper Danny Ferguson, was found dead in May 1994, in her living room with a gunshot to her head. It was ruled a suicide even though there were several packed suitcases, as if she were going somewhere. Danny Ferguson was a co-defendant along with Bill Clinton in the Paula Jones lawsuit. Kathy Ferguson was a possible corroborating witness for Paula Jones.
12-Bill Shelton - Arkansas State Trooper and fiance of Kathy Ferguson. Critical of the suicide ruling of his fiance, he was found dead in June, 1994 of a gunshot wound also ruled a suicide at the grave site of his fiance.
13-Gandy Baugh - Attorney for Clinton ’s friend Dan Lassater, died by jumping out a window of a tall building January, 1994. His client was a convicted drug distributor.

26- Hershell Friday - Attorney and Clinton fund raiser died March 1, 1994 when his plane exploded.

Many linked to the case died before their testimony could come before a Grand Jury.

It’s amazing how “white” people can make excuses for one of them when something goes wrong. But when an African American makes “a mistake” it’s played out to the hilt. It even more amazing how when Hillary Clinton makes ignorant remarks, people tries to make excueses, but at the same time, those same people are holding Obama accountable for things other people around him says. It’s funny how the comments he made in the “bitter” statements were and still are used against him, but Hillary’s subtle assasination remarks are to be overlooked because she has a great “lack of sleep.
The same is to be said about Obama attracting the votes of the blue-collar white worker, white women and others. Who has the problem? It is not Barack Obama who is not voting for a Black man. It’s those who see a Black man as a threat to their ideas. It’s those who seem to think that a Black man, no matter what his qualifications, is not capable of heading a country. It’s amazing how we can die for “our country” in a foreign land, but we are not fit to represent our country in any other capacity. America is deeply prejudiced and it’s 95 percent prejudiced by white America. Hillary has played the race card, the gender card and now the assasination card. What is next? I have said from day one that she is not getting out of the race, because she has an eleventh hour plot. She is proving me right. One more thing, everybody hopped on those comments made by Rev. Wright as something horrible, how much more horrible is it that those whites who voted for Clinton say they won’t vote for Barack Obama because he is a Black man. And you say America is not prejudiced? So many more of Obama’s supporters would vote for Hillary, so who’s more prejudiced? I am here to tell you - actions speak louder than words, any day. How can America ever get on one accord with attitudes like this?
May 24th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
She is unbelievable! Why on earth would she say such a thing! Some crazy out there will listen to what she said and take it as a mission for him or her. She needs to be taken out of this race. She has hit all the low’s anyone can imagine! S.D. need to pick a side and let this be over before anyone gets hurt! Shame on you Sen. Clinton! You are done! No one will ever vote you in anything after this. Forget the black, hispanic, and the smart white vote as you have brought the race card in! Shame on you, Shame on anyone who takes her side!
May 24th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Why is she just saying she sorry to the Kennedy’s ? Did I miss her saying, she meant no harm to Obama?
Or should I think it’s alright for Obama to be a Civil Rights Martyr like Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther?
May 24th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Well I hope now everyone sees how crazy she is. At best she has a memory problem because Bobby Kennedy’s assination has nothing to do with the year her husband clinched the nomination and he clinched it in April not June. But after sniper fire in Bosnia, she knows exactly what she is saying. Also once again it is all about Hillary with no sensitivity toward the Kennedy family. Does she have any self-awareness? Also she continues to get worse. The superdelegates need to really put a stop to her shenigans by pledging for Obama and stop the democratic party bleeding. What do you want to bet she will say something stupid again. This came out after her racist remark.
May 24th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
It’s possible that Mrs. Clinton just misspoke, but the point is that so many people have concluded that this is just another tawdry way to appeal to the superdelegates: He can’t win the white vote, oh and by the way, he might be killed before the election. This, I think, speaks to the deep, too-the-core mistrust that a majority of the electorate have of her, and this speak to the reason she should not receive the nomination.
May 24th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Hillary made a mistake by not getting out of the race when she was mathematicly eliminated ….she did not say she is waiting or hoping for an assassination. She is guilty of only jet lag and exhaustion.
May 24th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Sleep deprived? You’re joking, right? This is the same person who ran on being impervious to sleep deprevation… remember the 3:00am adds? If you think Hillary is sleep deprived and under pressure now, wait until the full weight of the Presidency is on her. God knows what will come out of her mouth then! I pray to God she is never elected to anything, ever again! My hope is that Hillary supporters would start to understand that the true character of their candadate, in all it’s ugliness is festering to the surface for all in see. In reading this, please understand this is not an attack on you Gordon. Please read the following from a respected national journalist and justify the horendous list of things offered up for the consideration of all -
God knows, Senator, in this campaign, this nation has **had** to forgive you, early and often…
And despite your now traditional position of the offended victim, the nation **has** forgiven you.
1) We have forgiven you your insistence that there have been widespread calls for you to end your campaign, when such calls had been few.
2) We have forgiven you your misspeaking about Martin Luther King’s relative importance to the Civil Rights movement.
3) We have forgiven you your misspeaking about your under-fire landing in Bosnia.
4) We have forgiven you insisting Michigan’s vote wouldn’t count and then claiming those who would not count it were Un-Democratic.
5) We have forgiven you pledging to not campaign in Florida and thus disenfranchise voters there, and then claim those who stuck to those rules were as wrong as those who defended slavery or denied women the vote.
6) We have forgiven you the photos of Osama Bin Laden in an anti-Obama ad…
7) We have forgiven you fawning over the fairness of Fox News while they were still calling you a murderer.
8) We have forgiven you accepting Richard Mellon Scaife’s endorsement and then laughing as you described his “deathbed conversion.”
9) We have forgiven you quoting the electoral predictions of Boss Karl Rove.
10) We have forgiven you the 3 A-M Phone Call commercial.
11) We have forgiven you **President** Clinton’s disparaging comparison of the Obama candidacy to Jesse Jackson’s.
12) We have forgiven you Geraldine Ferraro’s national radio interview suggesting Obama would not still be in the race had he been a white man.
13) We have forgiven you the dozen changing metrics and the endless self-contradictions of your insistence that your nomination is mathematically probable rather than a statistical impossibility.
14 We have forgiven you your declaration of some primary states as counting and some as not.
15) We have forgiven you exploiting Jeremiah Wright in front of the editorial board of the lunatic-fringe Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
16) We have forgiven you exploiting William Ayers in front of the debate on ABC.
17) We have forgiven you for boasting of your “support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans”…
18) We have even forgiven you repeatedly praising Senator McCain at Senator Obama’s expense, and your **own** expense, and the Democratic **ticket’s** expense.
But Senator, we cannot forgive you this.
“You know, my husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California.”
We cannot forgive you this — not because it is crass and low and unfeeling and brutal.
**This** is **un**-forgivable, because this nation’s deepest shame, its most enduring horror, its most terrifying legacy, is political assassination.
May 24th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
She easily could have said “Bobby Kennedy was still in the race in June.”
His assassination has absolutely zero to do with the supposed point she was supposedly trying to make.
She has been harping on the fact of that tragedy in a way that makes most people very uncomfortable. This most recent statement took the rhetoric way over the line.
She meant what she said and she said what she meant. She cannot be trusted - 100%.
May 24th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
It’s a good thing Hillary HAS lost the nomination. She is constantly lying/making “misstatements”. If she had been President she would have said the wrong thing to the wrong person and gotten us all nuked. Probably at 3AM!
May 24th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
I’ve seen all of the emails, for and against HRC, but I’m having a hard time believing that she can attribute her comments to fatigue, as Sen. Obama graciously has stated. HRC is a smart woman, she should have exhibited some forethought before making that statement for the 2nd or 3rd time. It would have been so much easier to just reference the campaign going on into June. And why did she choose that year? Other campaigns have gone into June besides the 1968 and 1992 campaigns. Really, she could have mentioned her husband and left it at that. She knew exactly what she was saying, after all she had said it previously in March, BEFORE Teddy Kennedy’s illness. So, there again, she told a cover-up lie, with much ease I might add, to make herself not look so bad. Had Sen. Obama, or Sen. McCain, said the same thing, HRC would have her foot at their necks and she would be renouncing them. I’m sure she would call for Sen. Obama to get out of the race because these kinds of remarks are not what the American people expect to be hearing from their president. Somehow, she would twist things to show that she is more “electable” and “experienced” and ready to lead this country on day one. My question is, WHERE will she lead this great country? I have my money on HELL IN A HANDBASKET.
May 24th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Ken….what you say is all true but in this crazy year we may have to put Clinton on the ticket in order to defeat McBush. Flawed as Clinton may be I’m sure the prospect of 4 more years of war, torture and depression will convince you that Clinton is the lesser of two evils.
May 24th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
That’s it. Hillary’s right. I’m changing my vote. Obama might be assassinated. Give it a rest you psycho-babbling guilt-riddled loons. Take your medication.
May 24th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
hillary should pray nothing happens to obama.

So quick question- how many people were in Barack’s ex-pastor’s church when Barack was present? I chuckle everytime someone relates Sen.Obama to Rev. Wright because he was a member of the church. Did any of you see him at church EVERY Sunday? I was baptistized at a church 25 years ago and so were my kids…and on the docket, I’m still a member. But I haven’t been to that church in 6 years… Stop making poor rationalizations for not liking Sen. Obama and just tell the truth…whatever that may be.

Pleasssse, give me a break! From the moment I first read the comment, I instantly knew what she meant. Anybody with any kind of common sense can read between the lines. She and God knows why she’s holding on. No amount of explanation can convince me that she’s not waiting for someone to assassinate Obama. Little does she know that Obama is destined to be the next President of the United States of America. I don’t know why I’m surprised by her statement. After all, it never fails, it always takes a while for people to show their true colors.

To all who have respectfully posted,
Even Robert Kennedy’s son realized what she meant– and she had stated this before. At this point and time, to have the Axelrod media and major media outlets stream the “analogy possibility” of inference- that Clinton is staying in the race so the extremely remote chance of Senator Obama’s demise would play into her receiving the Democratic Nomination is even lower than I’d hope to hear coming from the major outlets; then having the Obama campaign ‘forgive her’ is shameful.
Here’s the discussion from CNN (which obviously few individuals read before stating their inflammatory comments here):

Clinton explains RFK assassination reference
Story Highlights
NEW: Obama says Clinton was merely “careless” after long campaign
Clinton references Robert Kennedy assassination in remarks to editorial board
She says later that she regrets if comments were considered offensive
Clinton made a similar remark to Time magazine in March

BRANDON, South Dakota (CNN) — Sen. Hillary Clinton said Friday that she regretted comments that evoked the June 1968 assassination of Robert Kennedy as part of her explanation for why she was staying in the presidential race late into the primary season.
Earlier Friday afternoon, she told the editorial board of the Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Argus Leader that “My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don’t understand it,” she said.
Clinton complained that “people have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa” and said that position “historically … makes no sense.”
Later at an event in Brandon, South Dakota, she said, “Earlier today, I was discussing the Democratic primary history and in the course of that discussion mentioned the campaigns that both my husband and Sen. Kennedy waged in California in June in 1992 and 1968, and I was referencing those to make the point that we have had nominating primary contests that go into June. That’s an historic fact.” Watch more of Clinton’s comments to the editorial board »
“The Kennedys have been much on my mind in the last days because of Sen. [Edward] Kennedy, and I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation and particularly for the Kennedy family was in any way offensive. I certainly had no intention of that whatsoever,” Clinton added. Watch Clinton explain her remarks »
During an interview with Radio Isla Puerto Rico on Saturday, Obama reacted to the Clinton comment.
According to a quote released by the campaign, he said, “I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Sen. Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make, and I think that is what happened here. Sen. Clinton says that she did not intend any offense by it, and I will take her at her word on that.”
On Friday, the campaign said in a statement, “Sen. Clinton’s statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign.”
Her campaign first defended the remarks, saying the New York senator had been making a historical parallel.
“She was simply referencing her husband in 1992 and Bobby Kennedy in 1968 of historical examples of the nominating process going well into the summer. Any reading into it beyond that is inaccurate and outrageous,” Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee said.
Kennedy, the brother of slain President John F. Kennedy, was shot and killed just moments after claiming victory in the California primary in 1968.
Friday night, Kennedy’s son, Robert Kennedy, Jr., released a statement that said he understands the point Clinton was making and said it would be a mistake to be offended.
“I have heard her make this reference before, also citing her husband’s 1992 race, both of which were hard-fought through June,” he said. “I understand how highly charged the atmosphere is, but I think it is a mistake for people to take offense.”
Also Friday, the Clinton campaign released a statement from Randell Beck, the newspaper’s executive editor, saying Clinton was answering a question about whether her continued campaigning threatens party unity so close to the Democratic convention.
“Her reference to Mr. Kennedy’s assassination appeared to focus on the timeline of his primary candidacy and not the assassination itself,” Beck said in the statement.
Clinton’s campaign manager, Maggie Williams, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that people may have “misinterpreted what she meant.”
“It was clear to anybody watching her this afternoon that she was … deeply regretful, and people did not understand the context in which she made this reference, and so I think that she immediately, as soon as she could, spoke out to express her regret for … perhaps the way that she had spoken or the people had misinterpreted what she meant,” Williams said.
Clinton made a similar reference to Robert Kennedy in a March interview with Time magazine Managing Editor Richard Stengel, saying she could not envision a scenario in which party leaders would step in and call for the race to end.
“I think people have short memories,” she said then. “Primary contests used to last a lot longer. We all remember the great tragedy of Bobby Kennedy being assassinated in June in L.A. My husband didn’t wrap up the nomination in 1992 until June. Having a primary contest go through June is nothing particularly unusual.”
All three candidates have Secret Service protection.
Clinton, the former first lady, has had agents guarding her since her husband’s administration; Obama was assigned a protective detail in May 2007; and presumed Republican nominee Sen. John McCain agreed to accept Secret Service protection in April.

I find it ironic that Time magazine editors (who are Pro-Obama) failed to notify other major media outlets (besides CNN) of the interview Clinton gave in March- verifying her sincere use of the example along with her husband’s campaign in order to respectfully reduce the outcry that has been in the media for over 48 hours now.
The Obama camp is loving this I’m sure….
Regarding the questions of who played the ‘Race Card’, please review the following article (too long to provide here):

Lastly, my disappointment with the Obama campaign is in the slander of Senator Clinton regarding the honest comments which had NO inference to the Illinois Senator; Senator Obama gets TV time to ‘attack’ the statement and say that it’s a ‘careless comment’ from Senator Clinton due to a long campaign - I term this in line with several other instances as the Audiacity of Arrogance; In light of Senator McCain’s situation, Senator Obama now reaps the benefit of not having to worry about the Wright controversy as much; the media researched two pastors with controversial personal beliefs that had endorsed Senator McCain. The GOP cannot raise this issue without Axelrod countering with his conglomerate:

Clever, but how does one campaign now, or in the general election? I’ve been a lifelong Democrat, and I will not consider McCain in the general election, however I’ll be hard pressed to vote for the Democratic apprentice who claimed to have not wanted anything more than being a mayor in Illinois, or even the legislature. After the 2004 speech, the presidential aspirations became more transparent and Senator Obama was ‘taught’ by none other than Kennedy, Kerry and Clinton (each helped in getting him elected). Had Senator Obama TRIED to save Maytag jobs that were downsized in his state (Lester Crown and his family benefited though and gladly contributed a great deal to his campaign), or tried to improve the poor conditions of the apartments that were owned by his friend Tony Rezko in Illinois, then I would reconsider my casting my vote towards him. I only wonder how can we consider such brevity in record (literally since there are no scheduling/diary records of the Senator while in legislative office; where are they? Senator Clinton provided some records, and the tax results prior to PA primaries- though they earned 109M in 7 years, I applaud their contributions to charity- they were slightly above 10%. I didn’t see such percentages reached with either other presidential candidate- but correct me if I’m mistaken) for the United States Presidency?

As the nomination nears, It is obvious that the threat of Hillary supporters voting for McCain becomes a obstacle to be overcome. It is slowly becoming apparent that many Hillary Clinton followers are part of the 2000 Bush Cheny Power-base that upset the election for Gore in Favor of W.. One can read on any comment forum or news site just how many Hillary supporters are going to opt for McCain over Obama, and this shows clearly just how closely linked the Bushites and Clintonistas are. It maybe necessary for the Obama campaign to actually speak the truth about the Neocon agenda in the past 16 years, if he is actually to give the american eloctorate an honest and clean break with politics of the past. it is time unfortunately for Hillary and her supporters to be called out on what they really are: agents of stagnation, and a neocon attempt to insert a false candidate posing as a progressive democrat.

I cannot bring myself to believe that Sen. Clinton truly meant to say that she could still win if one of her supporters would just kill Barack, but it sure sounded like that. Her “apology” wasn’t one–show me where she said that she did not hope that somebody would kill Obama–which is her last remaining hope.
I remember Bobby. I remember our sense of hope that things could be changed. I have no doubt that he did not give up his life in order to create an excuse for Sen. Clinton or an opportunity for her supporters.
Just don’t go there. Sen. Clinton’s “apology” was inadequate. She made it sound like just another round of sniper fire racist hard working white and why is this uppity upstart beating me stuff.
She ran hard, and largely she was classy, and she deserves credit for that part. That does not give her blanket permission to suggest that her way to win is to have somebody kill Obama.

Is Hillary planning something? Did Bill clinton has anything to do with RFK assassination? All these are worth an investigation.

I think she honestly didn’t intend it as harm. she planned on referencing the impact, but didn’t think of the effects. I think she’s given up and wants to stick to her promise otherwise she’ll not be forgiven by her supporters.
Obama did the right thing by not going after, I think I remember when she used his words to win Pennsylvania, that he was an “elitist”.

Typical politics at it’s best. Typical uninformed people seeing/reading what they want. Typical media blowing something out of proportion. Typical, typical, typical. Vote who you want to vote for for what ever you believe in as long as the current gang of monkeys are sent packing. It’s going to take quite awhile for the people of america to be able to hold their heads up in this GLOBAL SOCIETY without being shot at. It’s going to be a very long time before the parents will be able to allow their kids to play in their fronts yards without worrying who is watching/waiting to harm them. Get a grip people, where are you priorities? I as an american are truly disgusted at the way my fellow americans have been acting for the last 30 years or less. I have lived many of places in & out of the U.S. & I never been more afraid to live anywhere more than I when I do/did in the U.S. because of all you crazy gun zealots, murders & child molesters.
I am one truly disgusted American citizen & military veteren who is ashamed to be known as an american. everyone who proudly flys the flag should fly it upside down in these times.

I truely cannot believe that people such as yourself will be allowed to vote. It’s no wonder that I live outside the U.S. and don’t feel safe for myself & family because of stupid, inbred people like you are running around.

I think Hillary got the idea to say this when she saw Billy Bob (Monica Lewinski’s Ex-Lover) heading down to Lee Harvey Oswald’s grave with a shovel and pick ax, presumably to dig him up…..
