This storm intensified rapidly today with a quick progression from tropical disturbance to tropical storm. The official word from the National Hurricane Center is that the storm may make landfall at near hurricane strength but others see a possibility of a category 1 or 2 landfall. The computer models are all tracking through the upper Texas coast, many through the Houston/Galveston area, so anyone in the watch/warning area should consider kicking off their storm preparations soon, if not immediately.
EDOUARD IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 4 MPH…6 KM/HR…AND A GENERAL MOTION TOWARD THE WEST OR WEST-NORTHWEST IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. ON THE FORECAST TRACK…THE CENTER OF THE CYCLONE WILL MOVE PARALLEL TO THE LOUISIANA COAST TONIGHT AND MONDAY…AND BE VERY NEAR THE COAST OF SOUTHWESTERN LOUISIANA OR THE UPPER TEXAS COAST ON TUESDAY.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 50 MPH…85 KM/HR…WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24
HOURS…AND EDOUARD COULD BE NEARING HURRICANE STRENGTH BEFORE LANDFALL.
I’m in a safe location and will ride out the storm, if it hits, from downtown Houston. Blog updates will continue, even if the weather gets nasty, as long as I have Internet access and gas for the generator.
stay tuned for updates and check out my favorite hurricane resources between posts.
