Hurricane Gustav: Development Into an Extremely Dangerous Storm in the Gulf of Mexico Expected - radar

I hope that officials in New Orleans weren’t seduced by assurances that Barack Obama can prevent hurricanes at last night’s Democratic National Convention. The early model runs, while far from accurate forecasts, are still extremely troubling.

Hurricane Gustav: Development Into an Extremely Dangerous Storm in the Gulf of Mexico Expected - model runs

The models pointing directly at New Orleans should kick officials there, and in Washington, into gear. The city is still full of homeless people and temporary housing so they have a lot of work to do if a major hurricane decides to head their way. However, the models are not accurate this far out so everyone on the Gulf of Mexico will have to watch this storm closely. It appears that Gustav is going to be trouble wherever he goes:

THE HURRICANE IS FORECAST TO BE OVER EXTREMELY WARM WATERS WITH RELATIVELY LIGHT SHEAR. THE OFFICIAL INTENSITY FORECAST IS INCREASED AND NOW CALLS FOR GUSTAV TO BE A MAJOR HURRICANE IN THE NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA. IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT BOTH THE GFDL/HWRF FORECAST SHOW AN EVEN STRONGER HURRICANE. MOST INDICATIONS ARE THAT GUSTAV WILL BE AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HURRICANE IN THE NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA IN A FEW DAYS.

I’ll be following this one closely so check back for more updates.

Hi Gustav, Nice To Meet You…

Florida going to take another beating?

Goodbye Fay, hello Gustav.  Stupid hurricanes.  I wonder if Algore is at home giggling and preparing his next Oscar winning PowerPoint presentation?  He surely is aroused by all of this.
    G-D forbid it hit welf…
